Bernheim at Night

Light of the Moon
Night Hike by the Light of a Full "Frost " Moon

Claude Stephens, Education Director,Bernheim
Dr. Faiz Ahmad and Dr. Bill Hardin, astronomers at Bellarmine University

Tuesday, November 19

Nothing is quite so mesmerizing as a big round moon coming up over the
horizon shortly after sunset. Join us for a hike in the cool night air as we
discover that nature doesn't bed down just because the sun has set. In fact, nighttime can be one of the best times to view animals or catch the songs of night birds and voices of night mammals. If sky conditions are not good, the astronomy portion of the program will be cancelled, but the hike will continue as planned. Call between 4:00 and 5:00 pm on the same day for information about cancellations due to weather.
Time: 5:30 – 7::00 pm
Place: Meet in the parking lot of the Visitor Center
Fee: $7 members,$10 non-members
Limit: 30 participants

Star Gazing
Star and Planet Gazing, New Moon

Dr. Faiz Ahmad and Dr.Bill Hardin, astronomers at Bellarmine University

Wednesday December 4

Saturn, appearing over the horizon about an hour after sunset, will be oriented to the earth in a manner that makes its rings appear wide open, giving the planet a rare brilliance. Without the light of Earth ’s moon, the night sky will be awash with stars and other heavenly features that your hosts from Bellarmine will introduce to you. Planning out star gazing programs in advance is always a bit of a gamble. We are hoping for a clear night, but bad sky conditions will cancel this program. Contact Bernheim between 4:00 and 5:00 pm on the same day to find out about last minute cancellations.
Time: 6:00 – 7:00 pm
Place:Meet in the parking lot of the Arboretum Center
Fee:$7 members,$10 non-members
Limit:30 participants
