How much does the program cost?

The program is free to students who register and there are 30 spaces available! This includes transportation to and from Life Adventure Center, lodging, meals and programming. We ask that if you register for the program, you commit to coming!

What happens if I can’t come after I register?

Please email by June 30 if you have an emergency and can no longer attend so that we can reach out to other students who may be on the waitlist. Following this date, it is expected that all students will attend the program.

Will there be running water/electricity?

Yes! There are restrooms with showers on site and all indoor facilities are air conditioned.

Where will I be sleeping?

Life Adventure Center hosts a two story bunkhouse with in-house restrooms. You can find more information about the facilities by visiting the Life Adventure Center site.

How will we get there and what time should I arrive?

We will take school buses to and from Life Adventure Center. Students must arrive at Bellarmine University no later than 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 16. The address to Bellarmine is 2001 Newburg Road. More information about specific check-in locations will be available closer to the date.

What happens if I’m on the waiting list?

Once the 30 spaces are filled, the registration form will no longer accept submissions. Students who would like to be placed on a waiting list should email Once on the waiting list, you will be notified via email by July 3 if a space has opened up. Please be sure to check your email throughout the summer!

Who are the facilitators?

We have an awesome staff who will be leading you through the First Year Summer Experience! Our two BU professional staff members are Natasha Begin, Director of Service and Leadership, and Hannah Steen, Assistant Director of Student Activities. We also have two student coordinators and four student leaders from BU who will be the main facilitators of the experience. Finally, the staff at Life Adventure Center will be there to guide you through the on-site, outdoor activities.

Do I need camping experience to participate?

No! Adventures in Leadership is open to any first-year student, no matter your level of experience with outdoor activities.

What should I pack?

What if I need to request special accommodations?

The Adventures in Leadership staff will work to accommodate students with disabilities through special accommodations. Please indicate any specific needs on the registration form. Once we have received the form, we will be sure to contact you with further questions if necessary.

What is the best way for my family member to contact me in case of emergencies?

Students will have access to their cell phones during parts of AIL, but may not be reachable during certain activities such as hiking and canoeing. In this instance, families can call the Life Adventure Center staff at 859.873.3271.
