How did your Bellarmine education prepare you for what you are doing today?
Bellarmine taught me a lot about how to think independently. At the same time, it also taught me not to be afraid, to lean on people for advice and to ask a lot of questions. Of course, my business degree background has been helpful, but it's really the interpersonal and communication skills that have given me an edge.
What advice do you have for those interested in pursuing your profession?
If you're an entrepreneur, you have to be ready and willing to fail—a lot! You'll be told “No” more times than you can count; you'll have problems arise that you never expected; and everything in between. It takes grit, determination and a supportive network of people willing to help. But there is nothing like seeing your idea out in the world. It makes all the hard work worth it.
What career accomplishments are you most proud of?
I've had a good career in corporate sales. It has paid the bills and helped give me the opportunity to launch Sandbox. I wouldn’t change any of that, and I’m extremely proud of what I’ve accomplished in those roles. However, starting this company is my greatest accomplishment. It’s been so much work and failure and learning, so to see it begin to take off and resonate with families is powerful and gratifying.
