Bellarmine graduate and Trustee Susan Diamond ’95 is the new chief financial officer
of Louisville-based health-insurance giant Humana Inc., the company’s board of directors
announced this week.
Diamond, 48, who holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Bellarmine's Rubel School
of Business, had served as interim CFO since June 1, when Brian Kane left the position.
She had previously been segment president of Humana’s Home Business since October
2019.
With the promotion, Diamond now oversees the finances of one of only two Louisville
companies on Fortune 500’s 2021 list. Humana Inc., with 2020 revenue of $77.2 billion,
ranked 41st.
“Susan is a seasoned and experienced financial executive with extensive knowledge
of our business, including deep operating experience from her leadership of key areas
of our retail business, and most recently, her leadership of our home business, growing
it into the largest offering of its kind,” Humana President and CEO Bruce Broussard
said in a news release.
Humana will search for a successor to Diamond in Humana Home Business, but she will
continue to contribute to the home-health business, which became the largest in the
nation with the acquisition of Kindred at Home from Louisville-based Kindred Healthcare
Inc. in 2018. Humana credits Diamond with that $5.7 billion deal, the largest in Humana’s
history.
Diamond joined Humana in 2006. Before that, she served as CFO for Smoothstone IP Communications
and Prosperitas Investment Partners. She began her career with PricewaterhouseCoopers.
On Sept. 16, 2021, Bellarmine University will recognize Diamond as the 2020 Accounting
Alumna of the Year at the Alumni Awards ceremony. (Last year's ceremony was canceled
because of COVID-19 precautions.)
