In the latest episode of Bellarmine Magazine's podcast -- The Pineapple -- Dr. Margaret Mahoney, 86, a beloved former Bellarmine University history professor, is remembered following her death on March 11, 2018, in her home state of Montana.

PineapplePodcastIn this memorial episode, anecdotes are shared by Mahoney herself from an archival interview, including stories about bringing her dog on campus, a snake infiltrating one of her lectures, and her perfect attendance record.

During her tenure at Bellarmine, Dr. Mahoney was a pioneer for change. In addition to being the first female professor at what was then the all-male Bellarmine College, Mahoney was appointed director of the Cardinal Section, Bellarmine's first honors program. She was named teacher of the year twice by Bellarmine students, and she held the position of chairperson for both the history and political science department and the social sciences division.

“I’ve never met anybody here that I didn't like,” Mahoney said about Bellarmine’s campus during the interview.

Mahoney's legacy and lasting impact on the Bellarmine community is remembered by her students and colleagues. Memorial gifts for Mahoney can be made via online contributions to the Margaret Mahoney Endowed Scholarship Fund.

The Pineapple is a weekly podcast produced by Bellarmine Magazine that provides listeners with exclusive content from the Bellarmine community.
