The organizers of the popular TED Talks series have approved a TEDx event at Bellarmine University next year.
TEDx events are locally-organized programs modeled after the TED format, where speakers deliver concise presentations on topics around a common theme. TEDx events are produced under license from TED.
TEDxBellarmineU, on March 1, 2019, will be focused on the topic "Who are we? Past, present, future." The organizers have accepted 17 proposals from speakers on topics
including:
- Science and Faith: Finding Common Ground
- Incarceration and Older Offenders: Finding New Solutions
- From Intercollegiate to Insane: Making Sense of College Sports
- OCD and Me
- The Theology of Difference

"Bellarmine students, faculty, staff and alumni do some amazing work, and hosting a TEDx event allows us to share this message with the world," said Dr. Shawn Apostel, an assistant professor of communication and one of the event's organizers. "Furthermore,
this event also enables Bellarmine to provide a platform to community leaders as well as those whose voices are seldom heard."
Speakers will include Bellarmine alumni and professors, along with community members, business leaders and even a high school student. Speaker times and locations will be announced closer to the event date. Limited tickets will be available.
This fall, Bellarmine's TEDx team will meet on Friday mornings in the School of Communication's "fishbowl" to continue planning the event; members of the campus community are invited to join the event team.
