Cultural humility is a lifelong process of self-reflection and self-critique whereby the individual not only learns about another’s culture, but one starts with an examination of their own beliefs and cultural identities (Tervalon & Murray-Garcia, 1998). This critical consciousness is more than just self-awareness, but requires one to step back to understand one’s own assumptions, biases and values (Kumagai & Lypson, 2009).1

Once a month for an hour, Carver OII leads a discussion focusing on identity and/or social justice open to students, faculty, and staff. This series aims to raise awareness, build community, and encourage attendees to create individual and cross-campus action plans on how to build equitable environments for all members of the BU and Louisville community.
Diversity Peer Educators
DPEs are trained student leaders who are dedicated to upholding the mission of The Dr. Patricia Carver Office of Identity and Inclusion by creating and facilitating difficult dialogue around diversity, equity, and inclusion. These students serve as Carver OII ambassadors and help create brave spaces across campus that invite community members to celebrate identity and advocate for change. Dialogue on Diversity
A day-long conference open to students and professionals dedicated to engaging in constructive dialogue about identity and diversity in the workplace across different fields through workshops, presentations, and panels. This conference is co-hosted by Bellarmine, University of Louisville, Spalding University, and Jefferson Community and Technical College as well as other organizations in the Louisville area.

LGBTQIA+ Ally Training
Interested in learning how to create an LGBTQIA+ -inclusive environment? These trainings provide audience members a space to learn more about this population, about their own gender/sexuality and gain a better understanding of LGBTQIA+ identities and the disparities they face.
