Why did I choose Bellarmine? That’s probably one of the easiest questions I could be asked because there’s a variety of reasons. I knew throughout high school I wanted to be close to home because I knew that I would miss my family and I loved Louisville too much to leave. I also wanted to go to a school that was smaller in size. I wanted to be able to make real connections with other students and staff.

Throughout grade school I was told that college professors don’t care and just want to work on their own things. At Bellarmine that has no truth whatsoever.

I had a friend who went to Bellarmine and talked so highly of it. I wanted to know more. She told me it was smaller, which was great, that it had a really welcoming and close-knit atmosphere, and I could connect with my peers. The professors wanted to connect with you and offer their help in any way possible. Throughout grade school I was told that college professors don’t care and just want to work on their own things. At Bellarmine that has no truth whatsoever. The teachers give you thousands of ways to reach them and are willing to answer your questions.

I had been on campus before, so I knew what the campus was like, but my friend gave me a little tour. I started to fall in love with everything and became really interested. I had a lot of time to figure things out at that point though.

When it was really time to think about the future, I took a tour and got to know the campus: its layout, its history and the family feeling you get when you arrive. My dad and I exchanged looks and immediately knew it was where I belonged. The Ambassadors and WOW leaders influenced my decision too. My mom told me this place was for me...I needed to be an ambassador and WOW leader. My parents were right about everything because I only applied to Bellarmine. Look where I am now!

The college life I have now is all I could ever ask for. There is no way I would ever leave Bellarmine, because it is truly my home away from home

The first year of college has to do with figuring things out. What do you want to major in? What clubs do you want to join? Where do you see yourself after graduation? I had a little difficulty when it came to changing majors. I was so scared to tell anyone I wanted to switch things up. Not only were my parents completely understanding, but so was Bellarmine. A lot of my peers had similar stories and the incredible help from my advisor and the faculty gave me a huge boost of confidence.

This past semester was the best semester I’ve ever had so far. I’m happy with my major, with the clubs I’m in, and most importantly I’m happy I chose Bellarmine. The college life I have now is all I could ever ask for. There is no way I would ever leave Bellarmine, because it is truly my home away from home. I’m even considering the notorious MBA program to add on a year or two.
