fall 2013 15 News on the hill Welcome Picnic The weather was perfect for the Welcome Picnic, incoming students’ first meal at Bellarmine. Following the meal in the Quad, freshmen donned their caps and gowns and walked to Knights Hall for Convocation, the annual ceremony that officially begins their Bellarmine journey. Photo by Amber Sigman Knights under the lights Members of the Class of 2017 learned more about each other at Knights Under the Lights, a high-energy, interactive program held on the indoor tennis courts in the SuRF Center. If you’re wondering whether those T-shirts glow in the dark, wonder no more: They do. Photo by Amber Sigman Crossroads Water relays, hula-hoops and obstacle courses – it must be Crossroads. This annual team-building and ice-breaking over-night retreat is held at Cedarmore, a 600-acre camp in Bagdad, Ky., about 40 minutes east of Louisville. Freshmen classes have grown so large that Bellarmine now holds two Crossroads sessions on successive days. To show new students a bit of the city, they enjoy a trip around town on shuttles, then head to the Muhammad Ali Center to learn about Louisville’s hometown hero. Dinner on the top floor is followed by a tour of the exhibits, a short film about Ali and dancing. Photo by Geoff Oliver Bugbee Clockwise from top left
