summer 2013 15 News on the hill Dance team takes fourth at nationals The Bellarmine dance team capped its 2012-13 season with a trip to the nationals, scoring a fourth place finish in the Team Routine category of the NDA national competition in Daytona Beach in April. The team also took seventh in the Hip Hop division. The BU dance team has competed for three years in the competition, and their 9.023 score is a program best. In the hip hop competition, the team scored an 8.802 to finish seventh, ahead of 11 other schools. Baseball makes run in post-season The Bellarmine University baseball team won 10 of their final 13 games and took the Great Lakes Valley Conference championship and a trip to the NCAA Sweet 16. The Knights fell just short of their quest to qualify for the NCAA Division II College World Series after falling in the Midwest Region final. Bellarmine had five players voted onto the All-Tournament Team: Nick Hladek, Michael Morrissette, Graham Spencer, Cole Metcalfe, and Austin Crutcher. Men’s golf advances to national finals The men’s golf team ended its season with a Top 20 performance at the NCAA Division II National Championship in Hershey, Pa. The Knights were led by Bryan Ratterman’s three-day score of 226 and senior David Shearn’s low round of 72. The team scored 921 during the tournament, finishing in 18th place. Five Bellarmine golfers participated in the national tournament: Ratterman, Shearn, Jack Clare, Alex Foley and Ryan Glass. It was the second time in four years the Knights have reached the national finals in men’s golf. Photo by Brian Tirpak Bellarmine website wins national award Bellarmine’s homepage design, www.bellarmine. edu, earned national recognition from Graphic Design USA through its annual American Web Design Awards in May. The new homepage, launched in January 2013, was among more than 1,400 entrants in the competition and was recognized alongside winning web entries from companies including Adobe, Dell, Lowe’s, Microsoft and Southwest Airlines. The new homepage redesign was implemented by Brad Craig, director of creative and strategic communication, and Ernesto Ramos, developer.
