Frida Kahlo: a Portrait Carlos Chavarría, playwright and director of Bellarmine’s Theatre Program, spent more than a year immersing him- self in the life of Frida Kahlo, with whom he has long been fascinated, to write a play about the surrealist painter’s life. “Frida Kahlo: a Portrait” was performed in the Blackbox Theatre in late November, with senior Victoria Reibel in the title role (left, with junior Amanda Goebel as “Pelona”). Lighting design was done by John Newman of Actors Theatre, who used to teach at Bellarmine, and the set was designed by Karl Anderson of Actors, with paintings cre- ated by Carol Stewart and Bethany Morse, an alumna of the theatre program. Two former Actors Theatre employees created wigs and the costumes for the play. Makeup was done by freshman Erin Tankersley and the score was com- posed by music technology student Zack Stefanski.
