neWs on the hill Having a ball, not on the Belle When a group from Bellarmine visited India in December, they took along some surplus Ball on the Belle T-shirts to give away. These kids in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, model their shirts and mug for BU art professor Caren Cunningham’s camera. A Bellarmine Derby? Until Bellarmine starts an equestrian program, we can all root for a capable horse named Bellarmine. Born in February 2010, Bellarmine is owned by Magdalena Racing, a partnership that includes Peter Edwards, whose daughter Whitley is a senior math major from Louisville. The colt’s father was named Magna Graduate, which inspired the owners to select Whitley’s school as the horse’s name. Bellarmine placed second at Gulfstream in his first start, and Peter says, “we have high hopes for him, including hopefully running him in one of the Triple Crown races.” Bellarmine’s other owners are Connie Stellar, Rusty Jones, Bruce Perkins and Kenny McPeek. 16 BELLArMinE MAgAZinE
