Is your Moodle course looking bland these days? Do your students have to scroll down the page to infinity? Well, never fear as the FDC (Faculty Development Center) is here to assist you with a few tips.
First, add graphics to break up content, highlight new modules, and add interest to modules. There are many copyright free image sites available as well as search engines for locating them. You may also hear such images referred to as Creative Commons, public domain or open access. Here are just a few image sites
Pixabay,
FlatIcon,
Photos Public Domain,
Flickr: The Commons, and
PickIt Images (also available as an app via the Office 365 store) You can do a Google search for images and filter for copyright-free images or use the
Creative Commons Image Search engine. If you want text and images to appear side-by-side insert a table using the text editor box when editing your topic using the Edit, Edit Topic option.
Secondly, change your course format to reduce scrolling. To do this go to the Administration block, Edit Settings, and in the Course Format area select the option to show one section per page. Click on the Save Your Change button to save the change. You will need to click on the Turn editing off button in the upper right-hand corner to see the change, but students will see it automatically.
Thirdly, create resource using the Book tool. The allows you to interlink pages with files, images, links, texts, etc. Students can easily navigate through the book and a Table of Contents is provided. A helpful video called
Book: Moodle 3.4 will guide you through the process so you are a pro in no time at all.
As always the FDC staff stands ready to assist if you have questions or need us. We will even enter the content for you just contact Adam (
