CLS student, Janell Bronger plates unknown patient specimens in the microbiology laboratory. After incubating these plates overnight, she will then view the plates and work to test and identify the microorganisms growing in the culture. She will work for up to 5 days to identify the pathogenic organisms so that the patient can be treated effectively by antibiotics that will work to kill the identified organisms. Her work is valuable in patient care because her skill influences the length of stay for the patient in the hospital which affects the cost for medical treatment..
