A Bellarmine University professor tells Louisville Business First that ownership changes in hospitals and healthcare facilities can be viewed as opportunities for improvement.

The weekly business newspaper's cover story focuses on the implications of for-profit corporations taking over nonprofit health care facilities, in light of the proposed takeover of KentuckyOne Health's Louisville operations by BlueMountain Capital.

Losing some local control doesn't have to be a bad thing, said Dr. Keith Knapp, associate professor and chair of the health services and senior living leadership department in Bellarmine's College of Health Professions.

“People cringe at hearing that, but there is something to be learned about seeing something that is going on elsewhere in an organization and trying it in another market,” he said.
