Bellarmine University, in collaboration with Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS), offers an accelerated master’s degree in teaching. This initiative is part of the Louisville Teacher Residency program aimed at recruiting and training more teachers, with a focus on increasing the number of teachers of color.

  • Program Duration: 12 months
  • Participants: Up to 50 adults
  • Focus: Recruiting and training teachers, specifically more teachers of color
  • Eligibility: Must have a bachelor’s degree (does not need to be in education)
  • Career Changer: Those looking for a new path are encouraged to apply

Participants must teach in a JCPS Accelerated Improvement School or a school approved by the district after completing the residency program and obtaining teacher certification.

Learning Model

  • Teaching Schedule: Teach four days a week
  • Instruction: Hybrid model with online learning throughout the week and in-person classes no more than one night a week

All advanced-level teacher education programs at Bellarmine University’s Annsley Frazier Thornton School of Education are recognized by the Kentucky Education Professional Standards Board, and are fully accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation.
