Students: 3 things to do before you check out for summer

Student Life

Summer is almost here. It’s so close, you can feel it. While finals might seem like the last box to check before the semester ends, there are just a few important things to do before you bounce into summer plans. It’s just a little financial aid housekeeping that can make all the difference for your wallet down the line.

1. Don't forget to FAFSA

First, don’t forget to FAFSA. Specifically, complete the 2021-2022 FAFSA for aid next year. Returning student packages will go out soon, so students will want to complete the 21-22 FAFSA so their aid can be renewed. You should complete your FAFSA with 2019 tax information. All federal and state aid (and some institutional aid) require a FAFSA application each year. Students can renew their FAFSA at  www.fafsa.gov . If you get stuck or have questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to Financial Aid .

2. Get a jump on your course requirements

If you haven’t already, check out Bellarmine’s summer classes. Students can use them to get ahead, or make up for lost time, and get closer to degree completion. Numerous classes are offered throughout summer, including some that are HyFlex and online. Summer classes are presented in an accelerated format many students find appealing. For undergrads, they’re also offered at a reduced rate of $625 per credit hour.

3. Complete the summer FA app

If you’re interested in taking classes this summer, see if you qualify for financial aid. Complete Bellarmine’s Summer Financial Aid application online at https://www.bellarmine.edu/financialaid/summerterm/. To qualify, you must have a 2020-2021 FAFSA on file (last day to file the 20-21 FAFSA is June 30).

When you return for fall semester, double check that your 2021-2022 has been properly completed and processed.  “Make sure any requested documents from our office have been turned in so we can award aid,” said Jennifer Davis, assistant director of Financial Aid.

Alright Bellarmine, ace those finals, file your FAFSA, and grab the sunscreen because you’ll be ready for summer. #SwordsUp for summer fun.
