U.S. News & World Report has named Bellarmine University’s Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program among the 100 best in the nation in its 2021 Best Graduate Schools Rankings.
Bellarmine’s DPT program tied for 83rd place with universities such as Belmont University in Nashville, Seton Hall University in New Jersey and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and ranked ahead of such schools as Chapman (CA) University, University of Dayton (OH) and St. Ambrose University (IA). Altogether, U.S. News ranked 244 universities.
“This ranking recognizes the diversity of the collective faculty expertise and their dedication to excellence in teaching and research to advance the profession of physical therapy. The faculty serve as excellent role models for students through commitments to clinical practice and advanced board certifications and service in a variety of professional leadership roles,” said Dr. Tony Brosky, professor and dean of Bellarmine’s School of Movement and Rehabilitation Sciences, where the DPT program is housed. “The program also provides unique opportunities through service-learning clinics, where students learn to address a variety of movement-related disorders. Post-doctoral training is also a unique feature of Bellarmine’s program through its two American Board of Physical Therapy Residency and Fellowship Education accredited Neurological and Geriatric Residency programs.”
Bellarmine’s Doctor of Physical Therapy program is an integral part of the physical therapist professional community and the local healthcare delivery system. The program is dedicated to excellence in physical therapist education and service by providing comprehensive academic and clinical experiences for diverse and talented students.
Students have opportunities to serve in Bellarmine’s seven service-learning clinics, including the nation’s first endowed physical therapy service-learning clinic; explore healthcare internationally in Australia, Guatemala, Italy, Belize and the Dominican Republic; collaborate with faculty on projects; and engage with local and regional partners in community engagement projects.
Every year, U.S. News ranks professional school programs in business, education, engineering, law, medicine and nursing, including specialties in each area, based on two types of data: expert opinions about program excellence and statistical indicators that measure the quality of a school's faculty, research and students. The data for the rankings in all six disciplines comes from statistical surveys of more than 2,081 programs and from reputation surveys sent to more than 24,603 academics and professionals, conducted in fall 2019 and early 2020.
