Dr. Scott Rizzo, DVM, MS, DACVIM, is not only a board-certified specialist in internal medicine for veterinary care—he’s also an entrepreneur with a passion for improving the way veterinary services are delivered. As the founder and owner of a successful veterinary business, Scott’s deep clinical expertise is now being elevated through business knowledge gained in Bellarmine University’s Executive MBA (EXMBA) program.
Scott joined Bellarmine’s EXMBA with a clear vision: to sharpen his business acumen and prepare for future consulting roles in the veterinary field. “I hope I can apply all the knowledge to my business, elevate the ability to run the business, and to later do consulting as one of my aspirations,” he says. “An MBA will allow me to do that as I transition to other initiatives.”
One of the key benefits for Scott has been the flexibility of the program.
“The flexibility of the EMBA schedule made it happen,” he explains. “I really enjoy working with my peers—as they come from different backgrounds, it elevates the class discussions.”
The EXMBA experience has already made a tangible impact. Scott is revamping his marketing strategy using frameworks and insights learned in class. “The MBA helped, for example, in my marketing approach at my business. I also shared with all my team the book that I read in the MBA program.”
Scott's story is also one of family legacy. His father, Anthony Rizzo, was a member of one of Bellarmine’s first MBA classes in 1977. Now, more than 40 years later, the Risso family name is once again part of Bellarmine’s academic journey—this time through innovation and leadership in veterinary medicine.
