Q&A with an Alumni Legacy Scholar

Magazine 2025

Meet Lucy Halfacre, a first-year student and Alumni Legacy Scholar whose Bellarmine journey is already filled with meaningful experiences. In this Q&A, Lucy shares what her first year has been like, what receiving the Legacy Scholarship means to her, and how Bellarmine is helping shape her future.

Page 50-LucyHow has your Bellarmine experience been so far?

I have absolutely loved my experience at Bellarmine. I am living on campus, which has allowed me to stay connected with the community and attend events at all hours of the day. I have also been blessed with some special friendships that I hope will be lifelong.

What would you like to say to our Alumni Board that chose you to receive this special scholarship?

Thank you so much for choosing me as a recipient of the Legacy Scholarship! It is such an honor to have the opportunity to express my passion for a strong education, as well as my appreciation for Bellarmine. Receiving this aid has allowed me to get the full Bellarmine experience.

How do you hope your Bellarmine experience will contribute to your long-term goals?

I am an elementary education and learning and behavior disorders major, and I hope to become a successful elementary school teacher. With this education, I know I will graduate and enter my field with an advantage.

How do you stay involved at Bellarmine?

One of the things that has really allowed me to connect with others has been Bellarmine Christian Fellowship (BCF). My faith is important to me, and BCF has been a great way to meet fellow students in my class, as well as some upperclassmen and staff who are important mentors for me.

What does receiving the Legacy Scholarship mean to you?

To me, receiving the Legacy Scholarship means following in the footsteps of my parents. My mom and dad are Bellarmine graduates and have gone on to live successful lives, with
life-changing experiences, valuable education, and lifelong friendships. This scholarship provided the very same opportunities to me, and I am so very grateful.

“The Legacy Scholarship honors our alumni, who have contributed to the university’s excellence over the decades, and fortifies Bellarmine’s future by continuing our storied traditions across multiple family generations.”
