Admission Requirements

• Candidates must hold a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree.
• Minimum GPA of 2.75 on a 4.00 scale. 
• Grade of C or better in science and math courses.
  • Applicants who do not have a minimum 2.75 cumulative undergraduate GPA may be reviewed for admission if the math/science GPA is 3.0 or higher.
• The following prerequisites are required prior to admission to the program:
  • 12 credit hours of Biology, including Cell Biology (at least 4 credit hrs at 200-level or higher); Immunology and Molecular Biology are strongly recommended
  • 12 credit hours of Chemistry, including Organic or Biochemistry
  • 3 credit hours of Mathematics (Precalculus or Statistics
• Complete an application at the Allied Health Centralized Application Service (AHCAS) website: ahcas.liaisoncas.com, including
  
  • Official transcripts of all previous undergraduate and graduate course work. (Transcripts must be mailed directly from previous institution(s) to Allied Health Centralized Application Service.)
  • Two references. Please use the electronic reference form at AHCAS.
  • Personal statement explaining why you would like to be a Medical Laboratory Scientist.
• A personal interview.
• If any transcript(s) or undergraduate degree(s) is from an international institution, you must provide an official copy of a third-party course-by course-credential evaluation to Allied Health CAS. Students must use World Education Services for the evaluation. Information regarding processes and fees are available at www.wes.org. The Office of Graduate Admission reserves the right to request a certified copy of the original transcript(s).
• In 2018 the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported healthcare facilities across the United States are increasingly requiring healthcare workers be vaccinated for vaccine-preventable diseases to reduce disease outbreaks. Therefore, those who choose not to be vaccinated for personal, religious, or medical reasons are not eligible for admission to the Medical Laboratory Science Program.

International Applicants

International students with a previous non-Medical Laboratory Science bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited (or equivalent) college or university are eligible to apply for the MHS – MLS. International students with a bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science from a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS)-accredited program are not eligible to apply for the MHS – MLS. International students with a bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science from a regionally accredited (or equivalent) college or university, non-NAACLS- accredited Medical Laboratory Science program are eligible for apply for the MHS – MLS.

International applications should complete the items under procedure for admission and submit the following:
Language Proficiency: Bellarmine’s Medical Laboratory Science Program requires an official TOEFL iBT or IELTS score for verification of language proficiency for applicants: a) who were born outside the US in a non-English language speaking country, b) for whom English is a second language, or c) who have a degree or transcripts from a non-US institution. Applicants must earn a total score of 83 or higher and a speaking score of 26 or higher on the TOEFL iBT or earn a total band score of 7 or higher AND a speaking band score of 8 or higher on the IELTS to meet the language proficiency requirement. Only official score reports will be accepted. The program reserves the right to review English language experience or to require a TOEFL or IELTS from any applicant. The official score should be sent to both Allied Health CAS and Bellarmine University. In addition, the program reserves the right to require an in-person or “live” (through distance technology) writing sample from any applicant.

Financial Affidavit. All applicants must provide credible evidence (e.g. a bank statement, letter on bank stationary attesting to the availability of funds, etc.) of the ability to fund the cost of attending Bellarmine University for one academic year. If funds are provided by another person on behalf of the student, an affidavit must accompany the financial information.

Proof of Passport. Scan of passport ID page must show validity for 6 months post completion of the program.
