ENTER THE 2020 BELLARMINE MAGAZINE PHOTO CONTEST

Welcome to the 2020 Bellarmine Magazine Photo Contest! We love this annual glimpse at the artistic talent of the Bellarmine community.

This year, in support of the CDC’s recommendation for social distancing to slow the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, we are dropping the usual Faces category. Instead, we want to see your best work in these areas:

  • Nature (this includes landscapes and photographs of animals, birds or aquatic life)
  • Still life (an arrangement of commonplace objects, often including fruit or flowers)
  • Creative/altered images (photos that have been manipulated in some way, whether that’s a long exposure, a digital effect, the use of a filter, etc.)

Here are the official rules:

The Bellarmine Magazine Photo Contest is open to amateur photographers and readers of Bellarmine Magazine who are 18 years of age or older. For purposes of this contest, an “amateur” is a person who doesn’t derive the largest portion of his or her income from the sale of photographs.

Each entrant may submit one (1) photo in each category, for a total of up to three (3) entries. Photos may be black-and-white or color. Each must be an authentic, original photograph taken by the entrant, for which he or she owns the copyright.

How to enter

Photos must be submitted electronically. Email your photos to Carla Carlton at ccarlton@bellarmine.edu with Photo Contest as the subject line. Photos must be at least 1 megabyte (1 MB) but must not exceed 3 megabytes (3 MB). In your email, include your name, your Bellarmine connection, if any (student, alumni, faculty, etc.) and a phone number where you may be reached.

The deadline to enter has been extended! You now have until 11:59 p.m. Friday, June 19, 2020, to submit photos.

Judging and prizes

Photographs will be judged on originality, composition and technical execution by members of the Bellarmine Magazine staff.

Judges will select first-, second- and third-place finishers in each category (where applicable) and may select honorable mention(s) at their discretion. First-place winners in each category will receive $100.

Photographs will be featured in the Fall issue of Bellarmine Magazine and on the magazine’s website.

Bellarmine retains the right to publish any submitted photograph in Bellarmine Magazine, on the Bellarmine University website and in other Bellarmine publications.

Questions? Email ccarlton@bellarmine.edu or call 502.272.8277.
