Hundreds of new students arrive on Bellarmine’s campus

August 18, 2018

It may have looked like chaos, but it was impressively well-controlled chaos.

Over a seven-hour period today, the 670 members of Bellarmine University’s class of 2022 arrived on campus to move into their residence halls or -- for commuter students -- pick up their parking passes and orientation materials.

Families who needed last-minute information on topics ranging from financial aid to campus ministry found staff available in Frazier Hall to answer their questions.

"If you don't love bringing students into college for their first day, you're in the wrong business," said Dr. Susan M. Donovan, Bellarmine's president.

Nearly 70 percent of the class of 2022 now live among Bellarmine’s eight residence halls. They arrived on campus with their families at pre-assigned times today to check in at Frazier Hall. After that, they drove to their residence hall where they were met by crews of returning students, faculty and staff members who helped them carry their belongings to their new rooms.

"I'm a little overwhelmed, but I'm super-duper excited," said new student Jalea Millon, from North Vernon, Ind. "I'm really excited to start my classes."

Why Bellarmine? "I really loved the environment, the diversity and the awesome career opportunities that they have to offer," she said.

Later today, all new students will sign Bellarmine’s matriculation book in Centro’s McGowan Hall and take part in a convocation ceremony in Knights Hall. On Sunday, they’ll begin four days of college orientation programs designed to ensure they’re poised for success when classes begin on August 23.
