The cover story features off-campus clubs from the '60s and '70s that were an enormous part of Bellarmine’s social scene. Harry Rothgerber '69 wrote the story, which brings light to clubs designed to bring residents and commuters together.

Some of the clubs sponsored a concert by the Louisville Orchestra on campus, participated in service work, and invited professors to come to their house to have intellectual conversations. “Back then, [Bellarmine] was very much a young institution,” said Carlton, “and it didn’t have much of a student life, so these clubs sprang up to fill that gap.”

Another story covers the new use of technology that helps to predict which students will need help, and which students will be at risk of dropping out after their first year at college. A cross-campus team led by Dr. James Breslin, the director of the Student Success Center, created the First Year Predictive Model. This model uses analytics to look at many variables that could indicate a student might be at risk of not coming back for a second year. Each student is assessed in all the variables to determine how likely they are to return. This helps the university to be more strategic with the resources that Bellarmine has to offer.
