Bellarmine graduate and Trustee Susan Diamond ’95 is the chief financial officer of health insurance giant Humana Inc.
Diamond, who holds a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Bellarmine, became CFO of the Louisville-based company in June 2021, after serving in an interim capacity. She was previously segment president of Humana’s Home Business.
"I’m tremendously grateful for the opportunities my Bellarmine education has provided throughout my career."
As CFO, Diamond oversees the finances of one of only two Louisville companies on the Fortune 500’s 2021 list. Humana Inc., with 2020 revenue of $77.2 billion, ranked 41st.
“Susan is a seasoned and experienced financial executive with extensive knowledge of our business, including deep operating experience from her leadership of key areas of our retail business, and most recently, her leadership of our home business, growing it into the largest offering of its kind,” Humana President and CEO Bruce Broussard said in announcing her promotion.
Humana Home Business became the largest home-health provider in the nation with the acquisition of Kindred at Home from Louisville-based Kindred Healthcare Inc. in 2018.
Humana credits Diamond with that $5.7 billion deal, the largest in Humana’s history.
Diamond, meanwhile, credited much of her success to Bellarmine University when she accepted the university’s Accounting Alumna of the Year award in September 2021.
“I am extremely proud to be a Bellarmine alumna,” she said. “I believe deeply in its mission, and I’m tremendously grateful for the opportunities my Bellarmine education has provided throughout my career.
“As a Trustee, I look forward to being part of the growth and future success of this great university.”
Diamond joined Humana in 2006. Before that, she served as CFO for Smoothstone IP Communications and Prosperities Investment Partners. She began her career with PricewaterhouseCoopers.
