The Counseling Center is staffed by three full-time and one part-time, licensed mental health professionals; eight part-time doctoral practicum therapists; a case manager; and a mental health educator.

Gary Petiprin, Ph.D.

Gary Petiprin HeadshotGary (email) is a licensed psychologist with more than 20 years of professional experience working in college and university counseling centers. He received his doctorate in Counseling Psychology in 1993 from Indiana State University and his bachelor’s degree in Psychology and master’s degree in Community Counseling at Oklahoma State University. He has worked at the University of Louisville Counseling Center as a staff psychologist and served as the Counseling Center Director at East Tennessee State University (1998-2004) and Hanover College (2004-2007). His areas of interest include gender issues; multicultural and LGBT issues; substance abuse; sexual assault and suicide prevention.

Gary’s passions include camping and exploring the national parks, hiking, golfing, music (ABBA to Zeppelin), pinball, and traveling.

Marlana Bragg, Psy.D.
Associate Director for Clinical Services

Marlana Bragg HeadshotMarlana (Email) is a licensed psychologist and joined the Bellarmine University Counseling Center team in January 2020. She earned her doctorate in Clinical Psychology in 2013 from Spalding University and her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Shawnee State University (2007). Marlana comes from a generalist training program in which she was trained to work with a variety of different clients in many different settings. While in graduate school, Marlana was a practicum student at Bellarmine University (2011-2012). Marlana’s pre-doctoral internship was at the Southern Louisiana Internship Consortium, where her major rotation was at Louisiana State University’s counseling center (2012-2013). Upon earning her doctorate, Marlana spent the first 6 years of her career working at the Kentucky Correctional Institution for Women, where she was the program administrator of a co-occurring disorders program. This experience shaped her interests, but she remained passionate about working with students in higher education. Her areas of interest include trauma; gender issues; eating concerns; multicultural and LGBT issues; substance abuse and other addictive and self-destructive behaviors.

When she’s not in the Counseling Center, Marlana enjoys making memories with her family and friends, trying new restaurants, spending time outdoors, listening to music, and cheering on the Bengals (Who Dey!).

Brianna Roberson, M.A. Ed., LPCC

Brianna Roberson

Brianna is a licensed processional clinical counselor and joined the Bellarmine University Counseling Center team in June 2023. She earned her master’s degree in Counseling in 2021 and bachelors in Psychology in 2017 both at Western Kentucky University. Brianna has always had the desire to work with individuals improving their self-awareness, interpersonal relationships and cultural understanding. Post graduate school Brianna worked in Outpatient Treatment for substance abuse with a diverse population assessing co-occurring disorders, trauma and relationship dynamics. Brianna’s areas of interest include mental health, multicultural and LBGTQ issues, substance abuse, trauma and expressive therapy. 

In Brianna’s free time she enjoys going to hot yoga, jamming out to Drake and Summer Walker, trying new restaurants, and spending time with family and friends.

Abbie Bordewyk, M.Ed. LPA
Staff Counselor

Abbie_023 Abbie is a licensed psychological associate and a current doctoral candidate in the University of Louisville's counseling psychology Ph.D. program. She earned her Master of Education (M.Ed.) degree in counseling and personnel services from the University of Louisville (2020) as well as Bachelor of Arts degrees in psychology and English from Augustana University (SD; 2018).

Abbie joined BUCC in August 2021; first as a practicum therapist through December 2022 and then then as a part-time staff counselor in January 2023. She specializes in working with student-athletes but enjoys work with all BU students, striving to walk alongside as clients discover the values that drive what healing and holistic well-being means to them. Abbie's areas of interest include anxiety & mood disorders, academic success/ADHD, trauma, disordered eating, and multicultural, identity, & systemic topics/issues.

Her hobbies include playing sand volleyball, listening to music, playing the violin, playing video games, spending time outside, watching sports, and spending time with her family (especially her husband and her dog).

Training Program 2025-26

The Bellarmine University Counseling Center provides training to doctoral and master’s graduate students. Our practicum therapists come from various backgrounds and training programs. Our currents students are from the following programs: Spalding University (School of Professional Psychology) and the University of Louisville (Counseling Psychology). Practicum therapists are supervised by the Counseling Center licensed staff members.

Practicum therapists serve the Bellarmine University campus community by providing individual and group therapeutic services, psychological assessments, liaison relationships to campus organizations, and general outreach programming. Sarah Briere, M.A.

Sarah is a fourth-year doctoral student in Clinical Psychology working towards her Psy.D. from Spalding University’s School of Professional Psychology. Sarah obtained her bachelor’s in science of psychology at Furman University in Greenville, SC, and Masters of Arts in Clinical Psychology from Spalding University. Previously, Sarah worked with children and adolescents experiencing relationship concerns, anxiety, depression, and trauma. Outside of school, Sarah enjoys baking, painting, watching Jeopardy, and playing with her dog and 2 orange cats.   

 

Gabby Davis, M.A., M.Ed.

Gabby Davis headshotHello! My name is Gabby and I am a doctoral practicum student from Spalding University. I received my bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a Clinical and Counseling emphasis here at Bellarmine before completing my Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of Louisville. I received my second Master's degree through my doctoral training at Spalding. I hold a special interest in depression, anxiety, adjustment, and eating disorders, and this interest has morphed into what I consider to be my clinical calling. I love what I do, and I particularly feel called to work with adolescents through young adults, though I am honored to work with clients across all stages of life. In my free time, I enjoy being outdoors, spending quality time with my family and friends, playing video games, and watching anime. I look forward to working with you!

Gabrielle Eismann, M.A.

Gabrielle HeadshotGabrielle is currently pursuing a PsyD in Clinical Psychology from Spalding University’s School of Professional Psychology. She obtained her master’s degree in Forensic Psychology from Fairleigh Dickinson University. Gabrielle has worked in college counseling centers, community mental health, and sexual violence crisis centers, and she especially enjoys working with survivors of sexual and intimate partner violence. Her clinical interests include trauma, PTSD, and complex PTSD. Outside of her professional work, Gabrielle enjoys baking and has a unique talent for unintentionally creating loaves of bread in the shape of animals, including several cats and even a rotisserie chicken.

Taeryn Mackie, B.A.

Taeryn is currently pursuing her Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology from Spadling University’s School of Professional Psychology. Taeryn earned her Bachelor’s degree in Clinical and Counseling Psychology from Bellarmine University. Taeryn has previously worked in eating disorder treatment in a Direct Care role. Some of Taeryn’s clinical areas of interest are wide, but include working with anxiety, depression, eating concerns and overall well-being. Outside of the world of psychology, Taeryn enjoys spending time with her pets and family, working on crafting projects and reading.

Calie Pannell, M.Ed.

Calie's HeadshotCalie is a doctoral student in the Counseling Psychology Ph.D. program at the University of Louisville. She earned her Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Counseling and Personnel Services (Counseling Psychology) from the University of Louisville and her Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Psychology from Berea College. Calie joined the Bellarmine University Counseling Center (BUCC) in August 2025 as an advanced practicum therapist. Calie takes an eclectic theoretical approach to therapy, drawing from person-centered, multicultural, and trauma-informed perspectives to meet each client’s unique needs. She is passionate about providing culturally responsive and collaborative care, with a focus on empowering clients to explore their identities, strengths, and healing. Her clinical and research interests include identity development, minority mental health, trauma, anxiety, and holistic well-being. She also brings a strong commitment to social justice, advocacy, and supporting historically underserved populations, shaped by her experiences in both community and school-based mental health settings. Outside of her clinical work, Calie enjoys reading, thrifting, and antiquing.

Deanna Robertson, M.A.

Deanna's headshot Deanna Robertson (she/her) is a third-year counseling psychology doctoral student at the University of Louisville. Originally from south Louisiana, Deanna completed her bachelors degree in psychology with a minor in communication at Southeastern Louisiana University (SLU) in 2015 and earned her masters degree in forensic psychology at the University of North Dakota in 2019. Prior to starting graduate school in Louisville, Deanna worked as an admissions counselor, a victim advocate at a nonprofit, and case manager for college students. Deanna approaches her clinical work using a Black feminist, relational cultural, systems-level framework which centers the individual, interpersonal, and collective experience. She utilizes interventions that tap into mind, body, heart, and spirit and is excited to support students in navigating their health and well-being. Deanna takes care of her well-being while being in graduate school by participating in community events, cooking meals, watching reality tv, listening to music and playing the drums!

Miranda Weathers, M.Ed.

Headshot - Miranda WeathersMiranda Weathers (she/her) is a first-generation, non-traditional Ph.D. student in Counseling Psychology at the University of Louisville. Her current research focuses on mental health help-seeking, stigma, and barriers to care, particularly for individuals impacted by structural inequities. Miranda is interested in uplifting care practices that are community-rooted and culturally grounded. She works to center equity in her work through integrative approaches to research, advocacy, and community engagement. Miranda currently serves as the graduate student representative on the Kentucky Psychological Association’s Board of Directors and as interim co-chair of the KPAGS committee. She lives in Louisville with her husband and two teenage daughters, and outside of her academic and professional roles, she enjoys reading, cooking, napping, and letting her imagination run free.

Anastasia Zapfe, M.A.

Anastasia Zapfe headshotAnastasia is originally from a small town in southern Georgia but has called Kentucky home for the past 12 years. She is a Bellarmine University Alumna. She is currently in her fifth year of the Spalding PsyD program. Anastasia has experience working with individuals with learning disabilities and extensive trauma. She is passionate about providing a safe, inclusive space for all individuals, giving back to the community, and striving for social justice. She approaches her work at Bellarmine's Counseling Center in a collaborative and client-focused manner. She is interested in working with young adults, those struggling with stress, anxiety, and those who have experienced trauma. Anastasia is very passionate about working with members of the LGBTQ+ population as well. In her free time, she enjoys reading fiction books, walking her dog, and finding new local places to get a good cup of coffee.

Simon Cozzens, MSW, Case Worker

Simon CozzensSimon is a social worker who joined the Bellarmine Counseling Center in November of 2024. A Louisville native from Okolona, Simon developed a life-long passion for human behavior and social sustainability. He earned a BA in Cognitive Science from Yale University in 2013 and a master's degree in social work from the Brown School at Washington University in St. Louis in 2021. He concentrated in mental health and specialized in System Dynamics. His work included facilitating workshops and modeling at the Social System Design Lab at WashU, as well as at Project ARK where he served Black and Brown youth whose lives are impacted by HIV. Since graduating, his work has focused on the success of low-income, under-resourced, and/or homeless middle-schoolers. This includes a role as Director of Data and Communications at Aim High St. Louis.

Simon has an ever-expanding set of interests and hobbies, which currently include bowling, volleyball, dancing, games of all kinds, gardening, cooking, and managing fantasy leagues for Survivor and RuPaul's Drag Race.

Beatriz Arevalo, B.A., Mental Health Educator

Beatriz ArevaloBeatriz is an AmeriCorps Service Member through the Healthy Minds Alliance AmeriCorps Program. Beatriz is a recent Bellarmine graduate and received her bachelor's in psychology with a concentration in Clinical and Counseling in 2024. During her undergraduate experience, Beatriz was one of the Counseling Center's first Peer Mental Health Advocate Interns. In her current role as a Mental Health Educator, she facilitates mental health training programs for the Bellarmine community, such as Mental Health First Aid and QPR (Question, Persuade, and Refer) Training. In addition, Beatriz is also passionate about coordinating outreach events and initiatives that promote mental health awareness on campus.

In Beatriz’s free time, she enjoys listening to a wide variety of music (from R&B to Reggaeton), watching anime, having movie nights with friends, and trying out new recipes in the kitchen.

Mental Health Advocate Interns

The Bellarmine University Counseling Center has an undergraduate internship program. The Mental Health Advocate Interns will develop and provide programming related to mental health topics and will help with existing mental health events. The Mental Health Advocate Interns will also be available for peer support consultations.
