There are many different opportunities for study abroad at Bellarmine. To learn more about them please connect with our office. Here are the typical steps students follow to begin the study abroad process:

  1. Fill out an interest form
  2. Attend an information session
  3. Meet with a study abroad advisor 
  4. Discuss academic plan with professional advisor or faculty advisor
  5. Select a program
  6. Complete the Bellarmine study abroad application
  7. Complete program or partner university application
  8. Prepare to go abroad
  9. Experience study abroad

Applying for study abroad takes forward planning. Please be aware of important deadlines.

The Bellarmine application for study abroad is due at the following times:

  • Winter Study Abroad: Due September 5
  • Summer Study Abroad: Due December 15 for the following summer 
  • Semester/Year Study Abroad: Due November 1 for the following school year 

Study Abroad Program Types

Semester or Year-Exchange  

Study abroad for a full semester or year at one of our partner universities. Students can pay tuition to Bellarmine while studying abroad and earning credits that will count towards their Bellarmine degree. With over 30 exchange partnerships around the world, you can study in over 25 different counties, including by not limited to: Japan, South Korea, Thailand, France, United Kingdom, Northern Ireland, Austria, Germany, Italy, Morocco, Sweden, and Switzerland. 

BU Global Horizon Seminars 

Participate in a short-term (1-2 weeks) study abroad experience led by Bellarmine faculty. These seminars are Bellarmine classes with other Bellarmine students, and will include thought-provoking academics, experiential learning, and cultural engagement, combined with the expertise and leadership of Bellarmine faculty. Seminar types include clinicals, performances, global field studies, internships, global access programs, and Honors Program experiences. BU Global Horizon seminars commonly travel abroad over winter break, spring break, or during summer. 

External Study Abroad Provider 

Study abroad with external program providers, consortiums, and other partner institutions for short to mid-length experiences anywhere from 5 days to 12 weeks. Prioritizing academic quality, safety, and student support services, Bellarmine has a portfolio of options that students can choose from. External program providers enable students to prioritize their personal, professional, and academic goals, and the BU Study Abroad and International Programs office can help students choose a program that best fits their individual needs and interests.
