This year the Bellarmine University Women’s Council celebrates their 45th anniversary and 35th Annual Designers’ Show House, The Manor House at Glenview Springs. This year’s show house is located at 6005 Springhouse Farm Lane (off Lime Kiln Lane) and the dates for this event will be Sept. 6 – 21.

The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants has announced the winners of the 2007 Elijah Watt Sells Awards, which are presented annually to the 10 candidates earning the highest cumulative scores on the four sections of the Uniform CPA Examination. John Briscoe Escosa, a 2007 Bellarmine graduate, was among those honored.

Bellarmine University is one of the nation’s best institutions for undergraduate education, according to The Princeton Review. The New York-based education services company known for its test-prep courses features the college in the just-published 2009 edition of its annual book, "The Best 368 Colleges" (Random House / Princeton Review, July 29, 2008, $21.95).

Nonprofit organizations and other grantseekers in the Louisville area looking for funding sources now have access to a valuable new collection of resources at Bellarmine University’s W.L. Lyons Brown Library, which has become a “Cooperating Collection” of the Foundation Center of New York.

Bellarmine University has been selected by the Council of Independent Colleges (CIC) to receive the Wal-Mart College Success Award—a $100,000 grant to help build on Bellarmine’s demonstrated successes in enrolling, retaining, and graduating first-generation college students. Bellarmine was one of only 20 colleges selected through a highly competitive application process to receive the award.

Bellarmine University’s School of Continuing and Professional Studies will offer an information session to acquaint prospective students with Bellarmine’s Accelerated Executive Certificate in Financial Planning program. The information session will be held Wednesday, July 16 at 5:30 p.m.

Bellarmine University will participate in the Fifth Annual Kentucky Private College Week from July 14 to 18. Kentucky Private College Week is a coordinated effort by the state’s 20 nonprofit, independent colleges and universities to provide students and families an easy way to explore a variety of college campuses during the summer.

Bellarmine University has received the inaugural Collegiate Challenge University Leadership Award in honor of the volunteer efforts of its accounting students. The award is sponsored by Chilton & Medley CPAs and the Louisville Asset Building Coalition (LABC) and is given to the university or college that contributes the most volunteer hours to the LABC’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.

Bellarmine University has named 617 students to its dean’s list for the 2008 spring semester. The dean’s list recognizes students who achieve a 3.5 grade point average or better on a four-point grading system.

(May 10, 2008)—Bellarmine University awarded 88 master’s and 377 bachelor's degrees during its 55th annual commencement exercises on Saturday, May 10.

(April 28, 2008)—Bellarmine University students, faculty and staff volunteered 83,636 hours during the past year (April 1, 2007-March 31, 2008). Activities ranged from cleaning Beargrass Creek to coaching youth sports to volunteering in third world countries.

(April 23, 2008) — Bellarmine University President Joseph J. McGowan announced today the Louisville school has received a $2.5 million gift from the family of Nolen and Maydie Allen. The gift ranks as the second largest single contribution in school history.

The Bellarmine University Mock Trial Team finished sixth in the National Championship Tournament held April 4-6 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The team earned its best finish since 2001 defeating Stanford University and Northwestern University in head to head matches.

Singer/pianist Sara Bareilles, who is currently topping the charts with "Love Song," will perform at Bellarmine on April 18, as the featured performer at the university's annual "Hillside Concert." The outdoor concert, which will also include performances by Raining Jane and Rachel Yamagata, is already a sellout.

Bellarmine University and Director of Jazz Studies Jeff Sherman have announced the 22nd Annual Bellarmine Jazz Guitar Clinic and Concert will be held June 9 and 10. The clinic and concert will feature instruction and performances by Sherman and special guests Gene Bertoncini and Paul Bollenback.

The Bellarmine University Psychology Bowl Team took first place at the psychology bowl held at the annual Kentucky Psychological Association (KPA) Conference on March 29 in Louisville.

Bellarmine University will conduct an information session for anyone interested in enrolling in the new master of arts in communication program. The session will be held March 26 at 6:30 p.m. in room 217 of the Brown Activities Center. For more information, call 502-452-8163.

Bellarmine University’s physical therapy students will sponsor their 2nd Annual "Fun Run” at the Louisville Zoo on April 19 at 8:30 a.m. Participants can take part in either a 3-mile run or a 1-mile walk.

Bellarmine University President Dr. Joseph J. McGowan announced today the addition of a new graduate program: the master of arts in communication. Scheduled to begin this fall, the master's in communication will be a 30-hour program designed to be completed in five semesters.

The Thomas Merton Center at Bellarmine University will sponsor a lecture by Princeton University professor Albert Raboteau on Feb. 28. The lecture, titled “Thomas Merton and Racial Reconciliation,” will be held at 7 p.m. in Frazier Hall in the Brown Activities Center on campus.
