Greetings and welcome to the Bellarmine Rubel School of Business website.
We don’t know what exactly brought you to this portal into the life of Rubel, but we are glad you are here. I have just begun my term of service as dean
for the school and perhaps like you, I spent some time engaged in research to see what I could learn about the school. It is important to gather as much useful information as you can before you pursue a relationship with your university and school
or college. That is what I did and I encourage you to do the same.
If I may, allow me to share some of the characteristics of Rubel that matter to me. Perhaps you are seeking some of the same things.
Quality matters. In a crowded higher education marketplace it can be difficult to discern answers to important questions like is this a good place. Of course, word of mouth and familiarity help with
reaching an answer to that question. I asked around in my network (I have been the dean of business at five other schools and colleges during my career) and learned that Rubel is well-regarded. I reviewed the credentials of the current faculty. I
recognized that they are a talented and dedicated community of scholars and teachers who care deeply about the success of our students. I researched how successful our alumni have been in launching and accelerating their professional careers armed
with a Rubel degree or certificate and learned that the placement, promotion, and accounting exam pass rates are excellent. Finally, I turned to the world’s best authority on business education quality—the Association to Advance Collegiate
Schools of Business (AACSB). Fewer than 5% of eligible collegiate-level business programs have earned accreditation from AACSB and Rubel is one of those.
Size matters. Different people learn differently. Some thrive in large environments. Others in more intimate settings. So long as the school you are considering has what you need, the answer to the
question of what is best in terms of scale is a personal thing. Rubel is an intimate learning community. You will get to know your faculty and fellow students. You will get to know yourself better as you progress through your educational journey.
You will develop partnerships and friendships among the other members of the school, some of which will last a lifetime. This is true at most colleges and schools, but it is an integral part of the culture we seek to develop and strengthen here at
Rubel. We aim to be personal.
Value matters. Every school or college of business will require two things of you, investment of your time and investment of your money. Higher education is not a spectator event. It needs to be engaging
in order to be valuable. Because it is transformational. Choosing the school or college that expects you to be engaged in the process of learning and to support and encourage you during that process is an essential component of the true value of the
education you seek and the credential you earn. Rubel’s legacy in the form of career and life-long successful and influential alumni convinced me that Rubel delivers on its value proposition. You don’t just get “what you pay for”
at Rubel, you get to become what you dream to be.
Values matter. Every school and college of business is part of a larger whole—a university that provides context, identity and shared values, all of which inform and support the school or college
of business in pursuing its mission. In our case, the Bellarmine/Rubel values call us to respect the dignity and potential of everyone who joins us in our mission, to expect excellence and integrity in thought and action and as professionals to choose
the right as well as the accurate.
Once again, thank you for visiting our webpage. I trust during your visit you will discover that we share the things that matter to you.
Warm regards,
Daniel L. Petree, Ph.D.
Interim Dean, Rubel School of Business
